RSS Latest News - Blogging or Blagging?

By: Charlie Cory

The RSS latest news suggests that RSS can stand for 'Really Simple Syndication', 'Rich Site Summary' or probably other interpretations of the acronym. An RSS tool is one that can deliver the technology where it is required.

RSS is simple technology that allows anyone to easily publish information from their web sites on to alert subscribers to the existence of new and fresh information. So what is an RSS tool?

An RSS Tool

Using RSS, you as a publisher can also syndicate your information to other web masters using the RSS technology. Marketing articles are a well known source of traffic to web sites, and delivering the message using an RSS is a very powerful way to deliver traffic to your web site. (See the end of the page for a link to marketing articles and RSS latest news).

The technology delivering RSS has been around for many years; dating back to its earliest incarnation in 1997. The following entities are known to be embracing and exploiting this technology

• Google

• Yahoo

• Microsoft

• Amazon

• IBM

• Apple

• eBay

The question is, can you afford to be left behind?

What Tools Are Available?

The focus of this article is to look at RSS as a means of delivering content to your web site, which, if done correctly, is a means of getting targeted traffic. Once your site has been spidered by the search engines, RSS can deliver fresh content by means of taking feeds from other sites. As long as you choose sites which have themed content, you will have regular fresh themed content on your web site.

And the search engines will love it, period.

This is a very powerful weapon for you.

Blogging - What Is It?

An article on RSS would not be complete without mention of Blogs. In many ways, Blogs are synonymous with RSS. A Blog is an excellent medium for delivering RSS feeds.

In essence, a Blog is an online diary.

However, in marketing terms, it is also a means of delivering keyword rich content to the search engines, pointing the spiders to your web sites as you go. You may have heard the rumours that it is possible to get a spider to visit your web site more quickly using some of this technology?

Well, I can tell you, that this is absolutely true!

I tried these techniques on four separate and diverse web sites, and in each case, I got the search engine spiders visiting me within days. This would take months under normal circumstances.

This is not a panacea for your business though. You still need to deliver useful content and pre-sell your products effectively. But Blogs and RSS are wonderful tools that are here to stay. You really must get to grips with this technology in order to keep in touch with the Internet marketing game.
