The Absolute Best Chest Exercises

If you want to achieve stronger and better looking pectorals, try doing the best chest exercises. These exercises are basic and are proven effective in strengthening the chest muscles along with the other muscle groups of the shoulders. A regular workout usually consists of these exercises.

The bench press, which is also called the chest press, is regarded as one of the most popular and best chest exercises. The bench press gives a major workout to the chest, but also improves the triceps and the muscles in the shoulders as well.

The bench press is pretty simple to do. While lying down on a bench with the weight held directly over the chest, lower the weight until the elbows are bent at a 90 degree angle. Then, press the weight straight up, but do not allow the elbows to lock.

There are quite a few variations of the bench press. Dumbbells or barbells can be used with this exercise. Resistance bands can also be used and allow for a vertical bench press as opposed to lying down.

One should start the bench press with one of the more basic variations and then as your muscles strengthen, you can advance to the more challenging techniques.

The push up is also one of the best chest exercises. Body-builders and people performing regular workouts usually incorporate several rounds of push ups to strengthen their chest muscles. This exercise can work out almost every muscle in the body, most importantly the arms and chest muscles.

In order to carry out a basic push up, your hands should be fixed on the floor, shoulder width apart. The lower body should be supported by your knees or toes. Bend your elbows and lower yourself to a desired resistance point and then push your body back up again. Be careful not to lock your elbows.

It is more difficult to do push ups on your toes. You can also create several variations for push ups by using a gym ball to incorporate balance training. You can also choose to add resistance as you progress.

Doing the chest fly exercise can also benefit the chest muscles. This exercise consists of lying on a bench, holding weights staight up in both hands and your palms facing in. The weights will then be lowered to chest level on both sides, slightly bending the elbows and then raised over the chest again.

This article has defined just a few of the best chest exercises. Changing the resistance and slightly changing the way you perform these exercises can add many beneficial variations to your routine.
