Relationship Advice: How to Regain the Best Years of your Life

Wendy Bridger

Just the other day, another woman reached out to me after a recent break up. "I gave him the best years of my life," she told me. So many women believe this lie that is simple not true. You choose the best years of your life, and whether they are behind you or yet to come.

So, you are getting older by the minute and cannot reclaim your youth. But happiness is found in our experiences and our attitude, not our age. By learning how to attract and maintain a good relationship, you will have a happier future and avoid the heartache.

Unfortunately, some people feel that our bad habits cannot be changed the older we get. We think over eating, falling into bad relationships or smoking become part of who we are and we blindly accept the often horrible consequences that accompany them. We've all heard people say, " I'm too old to quit smoking," or, "It's too late for me to regain my youthful figure."

We are never too old and it is never too late to choose to fix our bad habits and change our lives. I knew an 83 year old man whose health was so poor that he rarely left the house. Some members of his church taught him how he could quit smoking. With their support, he was able to give up this habit he had held onto for years. Weeks later, he was out golfing with his friends for the first time in years.

It's incredible what happens when someone decides that they are in control of their quality of life, and accept the support and knowledge necessary to make changes. The only unfortunate part is how long it took him to finally quit smoking. Think of the years he gave to his habit that kept him from enjoying life!

You cannot give someone the best years of your life because of the youth you have lost. A lady from my church found herself single again. Instead of wallowing in her heartache, she decided to find ways to continue to grow and develop herself. Because of this, she eventually married again in her 80's! She still is enjoying the best years of her life with her new husband as they ride around the country on their motorcycles!

If 80 year olds are still capable of bettering their lives and even finding love, so are you. All it takes is knowing the steps necessary to make real changes, having a good attitude, and having ample support while doing so. Life really is what you make of it. You choose the best years of your life. With this in mind, the best is always yet to come.
