Holiday Homes in the Greek Islands
Steve Woodward
Renting one of the various different types of holiday villas in Greek Islands will offer you the chance to explore some really amazing and beautiful country. But when it comes to getting to your holiday destination, you have a number of choices to make upon arrival in Greece. You could if you wanted to fly but a great many tourists prefer to take the more scenic route and travel by boat to the Island on which they will be staying during their vacation.
Yes flying is quick and relatively easy but can be extremely expensive and you may find that only a few schedule flights take place each week. However, with the boats there are numerous ones leaving the boats regularly each day. But be warned it is best if you get to the port with plenty of time to spare as the Greek boat operators sometimes find it somewhat difficult keeping to their schedules. Also in many cases, they will leave port without any prior warning and you may find yourself having to wait a few hours of another day before you can get the next one to your holiday destination.
As you will soon notice, all the boats, which are moored up along the quay, have both the destinations and times on signs at the rear (stern) of the boat. Plus you will notice a large amount of activity occurring around those, which are due to leave shortly.
When you have located the boat that will take you to the Island where you will be staying, you can go up to the booth in front of it and purchase a ticket. If you are travelling with children, it is important to note that those aged six or under travel for free whilst children up to the age of 10 will only be charged have the price of an adult ticket.
If you are going to be travelling to Rhodes, Crete or Lesvos it is crucial that you book yourself a cabin on the ferry. The journey time from the Greek mainland to one of these islands takes between 10 and 15 hours to complete. You have a choice between either booking a first, second or deck class cabin for the duration of the journey and if you can book it prior to actually arriving at the port.
Although first class cabins are more expensive (about the same price you would pay to fly), the time you spend on board may actually be more fun and relaxing. Plus in addition, you have a better quality of service when on board including a private dining room for those who have paid the money to travel first class.
Although, if you would rather reach your holiday destination a little more quickly then you should buy a ticket for the hydrofoil or high-speed catamarans instead. These do not actually have a lot of space outside so you do not really get a chance to see some of the spectacular views as you ride along on the waves.
So as you can see getting to holiday villas in Greek islands is very simple to do. But it is best that you make sure that you arrive at the port from which you are departed with plenty of time to spare. Also, if you are going to be taking a long ferry journey then ensure that you book your cabin on it well in advance of your journey.
