Are you a Street Puppet? There seems to be more of them around today. A Street Puppet is someone who will do just about anything, no matter how dangerous or risky it may be, just to be accepted by his or her friends. A Street Puppet’s actions are controlled by fear; fear of being rejected by their “friends” or by their girl or boy friend.
Case in point: I received an e mail from a girl who said “my boyfriend said that if I loved him, I would have sex with him. I don’t feel I’m ready for that but I don’t want to lose my boyfriend. What should I do?” This girl’s fear of being rejected by her boyfriend may very well cause her to do something risky that she really doesn’t want to do.
Taking “:heat” from your friends to do something you really don’t want to do and the fear of being rejected for it is sometimes difficult to handle. But if you stop and take a look at it, it really doesn’t make sense. Take the girl who sent the e mail for example. Basically what this boy is saying to his girlfriend is this; “If you love me, you will go to bed with me. If you don’t, then you really don’t love me.” That make sense to you? The only value this girl has to the boy is what she does in bed. Other than that, she has no value.
Bottom line here is simple: If your friends or girl / boy friend don’t respect you FIRST as a person, you’re hanging out with the wrong people. If you don’t believe it now, believe it when you see it because sooner or later people like this are either going to USE you or LOSE you. You can take that to the bank. As someone once said: “I’d rather have no friends and do the right thing than to hang out with a hundred “coconuts” who use me.” Couldn't agree more.
