Personal Coaching And Its Impact On Development
George Purdy
When people go off to college, they have little to no life experience, and yet they are expected to suddenly handle their affairs as adults. Many of these young people have found that life coaching can help them make this transition. It isn't just that young people need help with their personal development. These are our future leaders and coaching can help them become good ones.
Personal coaching can be of great benefit to a child at college. A parent can give a child a lot of good advice but it is more than likely that the child will not take much of it. The child wants to be independent and make his own decisions in life. The advice that they get from a personal coach is usually taken into consideration even though it could be some of the same advice they heard from their parent.
When a parent hires a coach for their child the personal coaching should be done in complete privacy. The need for privacy is important for young adults, and their trust and confidence in their own decisions will increase as they continue to make them. As difficult as it may be for parents to sit back and let their child come to them instead of getting involved in their personal coaching, it is important that they do so.
Personal coaching is also beneficial to young adults in the sense that it generates greater responsibility without the same amount of pressure. With a personal coach involved one feels that another person is invested in the issues that they are dealing with. This allows these student to bounce ideas off someone, and have extra help in strategizing the completion of important tasks.
A student may feel like they are getting help on their daily tasks, but the personal coach will not perform anything physically for the student. The coach's only role is to foster development strategies along with the student that are designed to meet the agreed upon goals and to also point out problematic areas that need improvement. Once the goals have been reached, the student will feel the pride of accomplishment and the confidence gained from having done great work.
Life coaches can help young people in college find their way and develop to their full potential. However, it's not just about helping them graduate. These coaching are molding the personal development of our future leaders.
Personal coaches can be very useful to young people as the enter college. Personal coaching can help with decisions regarding personal development without the intensity of the child/parent relationship. The coach becomes a person to screen ideas through and get outside opinions from. A student can get the help they need in solving their daily problems themselves rather than having things done for them. A life coach can help young people to reach their full potential not only at school but in gaining the abilities to take their places as our future leaders.
