What makes a major vacation spot quite so major? Exactly what aspect of each city makes it unique and stand-alone? It is the attractions, such as the water parks or the theme parks? Is it the museums or the local sports games? What truly defines a city as being completely unique? Overall, it is the landmarks. A landmark is more than just a building, it is a structure or place that has impacted the area in some way, giving it an unusual aspect and making it far different than any other place in the world. Though most major vacation spots are overlooked for the local attractions, the wise traveler will know that to get a real taste of any particular location, you must hit the landmarks first.

The Carew Tower

Cincinnati Ohio is an excellent example of a city that takes great pride in the various landmarks located throughout the city itself as well as the surrounding countryside. One of the more prominent, as well as the most notable landmarks in Cincinnati is that of the Carew Tower. This monolithic building can be seen for miles as it stands as the tallest building in the city. This institution has stood for over seventy years now, watching solemnly as the city expanded beyond the borders of expectation. Within the building is a mix of office space, hotel accommodations and shopping centers. For the avid shopper, this is the ideal place to get a room during your visit, as there are plenty of shops therein. The view from the upper floors of this building is scenic to say the least.

Fountain Square

Another defining aspect of the lovely city of Cincinnati is that of Fountain Square. Directly in the heart of Cincinnati, this place has long been a gathering point for the cities residents and visitors alike. It is considered to be the very center of Cincinnati, metaphorically speaking. Throughout the year one can expect vendors, skateboarders, people relaxing and any other relaxation activity to be seen here. If there is a festival currently going on in Cincinnati, you can certainly bet that it will be focused directly from Fountain Square.

The Gorman Heritage Farm

If you want to get deeper into the historical landmarks of Cincinnati, then you will need to take a short drive through the countryside to the Gorman Heritage Farm. This is a massive farmland with acres of woods, trails, and fields of sunflowers and corn. This particular farm played the role of homestead for some of the very first settlers in the Ohio area in the late 1700's. This is an awesome experience for those who like a little history and a lot of woodland beauty and serenity.

Before you start picking out that next perfect getaway vacation spot, take into consideration if you are really getting into the area or just playing the role of tourist. Get a real taste of the areas by checking out the landmarks like those found in historic Cincinnati Ohio.
