Making a Career as a Certified Pilates Trainer

More and more American's are choosing Pilates as their favorite way to stay in shape. Although Pilates has been around for a long time, it's popularity has grown steadily over the past decade.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, over the next few years the demand for employees in the fitness field will increase more than for any other job.

Facilities and studios in cities all across America are now offering Pilates training. The training for Pilates certification is usually offered in two separate parts - comprehensive instruction and mat instruction.

The courses to earn a certificate in mat instruction can usually be found at many health clubs. These are short classes that are normally offered over one or two weekends. You can expect to pay at least $100 for these classes, but they can cost more.

The classes for certification in comprehensive training will last at least a year or more. You will be required to take basic anatomy and psychology classes and perform up to 900 hours as a teacher apprentice.

In order to even enroll at most facilities, you need to have already completed one year of Pilates training and attended a certain number of private classes. Earning a certificate in comprehensive training will cost several thousands of dollars.

There are many specialized fields for Pilates. You may choose to target athletes, children or go into rehabilitive Pilates. If your desire is to be a teacher, training classes of your own students, comprehensive training will teach you all you need to know.

If you can't find a facility or studio near you that provides Pilates training, there are many places online that will let you complete a home study course. These places may only require that you finish the training within a certain amount of months and will cost from $50 to several hundred.
