Chlamydia - Early Treatment Is Important
Elizabeth Campbell
Chlamydia is one of the most common STDS. The Chlamydia trachomatis bacterium causes the disease. Chlamydia is more prevalent among teenagers and young adults because of their very active sexual activities. The disease can be very dangerous but it can readily be cured if diagnosed promptly. It is one cause of blindness which can be prevented. Conjunctivitis, which can cause blindness, is a complication connected Chlamydia
In men, this can lead to infection of the urethra. Majority of women who contracted the disease and did not get proper medical attention will suffer from pelvic inflammatory syndrome or uterus infections together with uterine proboscis and/or ovaries infections.
Pelvic inflammatory disease causes lacerations in the reproductive organs that lead to serious complications including constant pains in the pelvic area, reproductive problems, ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the uterus) and a host of other problems connected to reproduction.
Just like in gonorrhoea, the bacterium Chlamydia can live in the uterine cervix, urethra and inside the throat and rectum as well. For both men and women, Chlamydia does not show early indications of the infection. Consequently, the infected persons can spread the disease unknowingly through sexual contact as well as through anal and oral sex.
If somebody touches body fluids, which contain the bacterium, and then they touch their eyes, it is possible to spread the Chlamydia infection to the eye too. It can as well pass from the mother to the baby while giving birth. Chlamydia can cause pneumonia and conjunctivitis, which can become very severe for the baby if they are not treated. The disease can be easily cured as long as you are aware of it. If it is not treated, though, Chlamydia can lead to more severe health problems.
Chlamydia is known as the "silent" disease because they do not give out noticeable symptoms. And if they do appear several weeks after exposure, they seem so negligible and the person forgets about them completely.
Sign and symptoms of infection with Chlamydia can include: - painful urinating or the need to urinate more frequently than usually -inferior abdominal pain -vaginal discharge in the case of women -bleeding between menstruations -painful intercourse -penis discharge in the case of men -inflamed testicles, painful if touching them or fever Sometimes, Chlamydia infection can cause slight fever, muscular pain or headache.
Infected men might produce discharge from their penis and experience a burning sensation while urinating. They might also have burning sensation and itching around the penis opening. On rare occasions there might also be pain swelling in the testicles.
Various diagnostic examinations can be done to determine presence of infection, such as urinalysis, physical examination of the genital area, and testing of culture samples taken the penis and vagina discharges. Given that this STD is more common among teenagers and young adults, a great way to prevent its spread is through the promotion of sex education in schools and establishment of social assistance centres in the community.
