Lewis and Stornoway Hotels

Stornoway is the main town on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides (which are also known as the Western Isles), of Scotland. Situated far off the west coast of Scotland the islands of the Outer Hebrides are remote and exposed, with the seas and winds of the North Atlantic ocean constantly pounding the shores. Stornoway, and the Outer Hebrides in general, are a popular tourist destination for those looking for something out of the ordinary. This article looks at the town and the accommodation and Stornoway Hotels.
There are several things about the Outer Hebrides which makes them one of the most interesting places in the United Kingdom. Top of the list has to be the Calanais standing stones which, rather than being a stone circle, is actually a circle with four avenues in the form of a crucifix. Found on the Isle of Lewis these famous stones are one of the most important places to visit when staying in Stornoway Hotels but they are some distance from the town so forward planning is required.
For a number of years now the areas Council has been busy replacing on road signs with bilingual ones displaying the main name in the native Gaelic language with a smaller English translation. This can be somewhat confusing as older guide books have different names for places. A typical example is the nearby iron age broch known as Dn Chrlabhaigh, which is well worth a visit after visiting the standing stones, which was previously, and more widely, known as Dun Carloway Broch on the Isle of Lewis.
Stornoway is a great place to stay while having a Hebridean vacation. It has all the facilities and amenities you should expect to see in a town that serves as the main administrative centre for the islands of the Outer Hebrides. There are lots of guest houses to choose from and all offer excellent bed and breakfast accommodation. Sadly the choice of Stornoway hotels is rather small but we have listed the main hotels in Stornoway below so that you can make an informed decision before booking online.
Top of nearly every list of hotels on the Isle of Lewis is the Caberfeidh Hotel. Long known as the finest hotel in Stornoway the Caberfeidh offers luxury accommodation in wonderful surroundings. Set in it's own finely manicured gardens, with the incredible Lews Castle ground just across the road, the Caberfeidh Hotel is the choice hotel for those who enjoy luxury but prefer a quieter environment.
The largest hotel in Stornoway is the Caladh Inn, which is owned by the same group that own the hotel above. Found on the opposite side of town to the Caberfeidh the Caladh Inn is the most accessible hotel to Stornoway airport. The Caladh Inn is also just a few minutes walk from the town center and other important transport links such as the ferry terminal.
Finally we take a look at the best looking hotel in Stornoway, the Royal Hotel. Built in 1850 the Royal Hotel is Stornoway's most historic hotel retaining many period features (found in the front facing rooms). Found almost at the heart of the town the hotel's Boatshed Restaurant and HS1 Cafe are extremely popular eating places of excellent reputation. With superb views out over the harbour this is the hotel to stay in if you like to be close to the action while enjoying comfortable accommodation.
The Caberfeidh Hotel has a wonderful selection of function rooms suitable for all manner of events. Often used for wedding receptions and wedding dances the Caberfeidh now offers a 'complete wedding' service. However these function rooms are nearly always booked for a number of events such as business seminars, sales and dances. As most hotels now include and internet connection as standard these Stornoway hotels offer a wireless broadband connection along with all the other usual services to be expected.
