Selecting which is the right kind of summerhouse for your garden can be extremely difficult as there are many different styles to choose from. When it comes to building summerhouses today, there are many companies who now manufacture these in kit form allowing you to do the work for yourself so saving you money. However, although these kits are great when they are being produced there are certain things that need to be taken into consideration and which the manufacturer will often forget about.

Therefore, when you are selecting the right kit you need to take a number of different factors into consideration before you make your purchase. Below we take a look at just what these factors are.

1. Site Location - You need to choose a location within your garden that is not only large enough for the summerhouse to sit in. But is also one that will provide you with sufficient space around it for you to work safely and easily whilst you are actually erecting it. You should not forget that you would need to use large pieces of equipment such as ladders, which you will require in order to sit the roof on top of the frame.

2. Neighbours - If you are looking to place the building close to a boundary wall or fence then you may find that in order to do some of the work you will need to be in our neighbour's garden. Therefore, it is a good idea that you discuss the matter beforehand with them and arrange for them to provide you with the necessary permission to go through their garden to complete the work.

3. Height of the Roof - You need to remember to select a site where the roof of the building is not going to be close to any kinds of trees or bushes. Otherwise, you may need to cut back these plants in order to prevent damage being caused to roof of the summerhouse especially in the winter months.

4. Base for the Summerhouse - Once you have chosen the right place in your garden where you will be placing the summerhouse you need to get a foundation laid for it. Although you can use paving stones, the best foundation for a summerhouse is a solid concrete one. This is simply because it provides you with a sound base on to which the frame of the building can be directly attached.

5. Erecting the Summerhouse - After the foundation has been laid and before you start to erect the building it is a good idea for you to read through the instructions that have been provided by the manufacturer of the kit. Also during this initial stage, you should look at all the pieces of summerhouse that have been provided to ensure that everyone that is in the kit is there. After you have erected the frame of the building, you should next start to build up its walls. Start off by building up to a height of around 18 inches from the frames base and then you can install the doorframe. Then after this, you should build the walls up further to a height that is about in line with your waist before you install the doors. After this, you can the build up the rest of the walls before you finally put on the roof.

If you remember to keep the above tips in mind then you should find not just choosing but erecting the right summerhouse for your garden a whole lot easier. Also, you will need to clarify with your local building authority if any permits are required, as certain building including summerhouses, which are above 100 sq ft, will need such things before they can actually be erected.
