Keeping Bad Bugs Out Of Your Garden

All your hard work can be completely ruined in a few hours by the nasty pests that appear as soon as you've finished planting your garden. That's something no gardener needs or likes to see.
Naturally the best thing to do is not allow these unwanted insects into your garden in the first place. The problem is, if we turn to the many pesticides available we run the very real risk of harming the health of our children and pets.
At the same time, by killing the unwanted pests you also kill the friendly ones. You don't want to do that because you need all the help you can get in the fight against the bad bugs.
Insects like ladybugs and spiders are to be encouraged if you want to control the pests, so you certainly don't want to kill them before they can do their job. These friends of the gardener will assist you in keeping the bad bugs at bay by eating or discouraging them.
You should find out from your local nursery what plants attract these helpful insects so that you can plant them to encourage the good pests to take up residence and keep the damaging ones out.
For example, if you want a good healthy crop of tomatoes, plant some borage or marigolds around them and the pests will leave your precious tomato plants alone. There are other plants that have a perfume the bad bugs don't like and keeps them away... that stops them from doing their damage.
Another thing to keep in mind is to keep your garden neat and tidy. The harmful pests are often attracted to piles of leaves, debris, grass cuttings and dense spots of weeds. Many of the bad pests can thrive in those areas, so weed your garden regularly and clean up any leaves and grass cuttings that find their way into your garden.
Using organic methods has the advantage of controlling the insect pests by simple means like using a hot pepper spray on your crops. This will repel most native animal pests as well as insects with it's hot spicy aroma.
If you're concerned about any taste left on your edible crops after using this spicy concoction, you don't have to worry. Just make sure you thoroughly wash them after harvest and you won't have any problem.
There's nothing worse than seeing all your hard work amount to nothing at any time and it's no different for gardeners. Don't allow all your time and effort to go to waste by not doing anything to get rid of these insect pests.
Do a little homework first around your local area and find out what are the best companion plants to keep the good guys around and what will annoy the bad pests, this will pay dividends.
