So what are the main reasons for bad breath? There are a few and of course it will be different for everyone. Typically these are some common reasons for most people.
One main reason for our breath condition is the presence of anaerobic bacteria in our mouths. These bacteria basically feed on the leftover food remains in our mouths and as they do that, they release that foul breath that most of us are familiar with. That is why having a proper oral routine is important. Brushing and flossing should be part and and parcel of your everyday routine without fail.
Another major reason is gum diseases. Amongst the gum diseases, gingivitis is the most common. Gingivitis is actually an inflammation of the gums and that usually is the result of plaque. While that can result in bad breath, it is probably the least of your problem. Your teeth and gums are likely to suffer an irreversible damage if you do nothing about it and this is where you need to pay a visit to your dentist immediately.
Lack of saliva is another reason. The lack of saliva can be due to medication or simply dehydration. The obvious treatment here is water. Drink water to keep yourself hydrated is a simple yet effective way to rectify this.
Health condition such as diabetes, infection, liver problems, or kidney failure are also contributing factors. In fact, many cancer patients reported that they suffered from dry mouth after they have undergone radiation therapy. Other reasons include stress, dieting, age, hormonal problems and snoring.
You should not be surprised to learn that there are foods that contain volatile oil which are major causes of our breath condition. For example, it is a well known fact that eating onions and garlic cause your breath to smell, so in order to avoid that you can blend them instead of eating them raw. The reason is that they are usually metabolized in the body and the smell is pass to the lungs result in smelly breath.
Do you suffer from persistent cough? If so, keep away from dairy products. The fat in dairy products can thicken mucus, which will also make your cough worse and increase your likelihood of having halitosis. Switch to low-fat or non-fat milk, reduced-fat cottage cheese, low-fat or non-fat cheeses, and so on.
Hopefully, after you have read what gives you bad breath, you will be in a much better position to make positive changes to your breath condition. It is not difficult to have fresh breath. All you need to apply the right approach for your unique condition.
