I am not Catholic, but yet I was still moved. How can one not be.
How can one not be moved and inspired watching the pope greet the people of the United States riding in his pope mobil as the crowd desperately reached out to touch him.
How can one not be moved and inspired watching the pope bless the handicap children as they looked up at him with hope.
How can one not be moved watching him walk up the steps of the alter at Yankee Stadium as the camera scans the crowd of 52,000 people enthusiastically cheering him on.
How can one not be moved watching him pray at the site of the World Trade Center comforting those who have lost loved ones.
At that moment in time he was more than a rock star. He was more than a movie star. He seemed almost supernatural.
No, even though I am not Catholic I was moved by the pope’s visit.
And then I think. If people were so moved by this man, so taken by his charisma, so taken by his obvious charm; this human being; can you imagine how they will react when “he” shows up;
“he.”
No, no, not “He,” capital “H,” but “he,” small “h.” Big difference.
Do you know what the difference is? Hope so. I sure hope so.
For “he” too will inspire.
For “he” too will give hope to handicap children.
For “he” too will comfort those who mourn.
For “he” too will have the crowd enthusiastically reach out to touch him.
But unlike the pope, “he” will be supernatural.
With those powers, I can’t imagine how much more
“he” will inspire.
“he” will give hope
“he’” will comfort.
“he” will reach out and touch the hearts of the crowd.
Judging by the way people reacted to the pope, I can’t imagine.
Can you?
It won’t be long before we all find out.
