Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra: "An honest man's word is as good as his bond."
In today's world it is necessary to think seriously about the role of professional ethics guidance in colleges, so as to open the doors to train professionals who are intellectually prepared to meet the needs, challenges, and circumstances of the geographic, economic, cultural and political issues of today's society.
The professional profile required by today's society should at least have the following:
Commitment to ethics
Ability to negotiate conflict
Leadership skills
Motivation towards results
Sound knowledge and fully competent in their particular discipline
Potential as an entrepreneur
The following describes and analyzes the proposed ideas set forth in order to find an ethical profile in line with the demands and requirements of not only the university realm, but entities of the productive sector and a social interest in achieving progress that is understood as a state in which there are advances in balance between social, human, environmental, and economic issues.
We need a commitment to professional ethics.
The French writer Victor Hugo gives us a sentence in five words that rumbles today with enormous validity in all corners of the world: "Open schools to close prisons."
Education is life; It transforms people, and it produces peaceful revolutions. But we should emphasize the training of men of good, committed in the first place with the highest values and moral principles.
Unfortunately, a good education is not full assurance for obtaining good and honest men. It was not an illiterate peasant who was the inventor of the atomic bomb or weapons of mass destruction. And it was not simple and illiterate tyrants who used these weapons to cause pain in the Nazi Holocaust.
That is why the university leaders who choose curriculum should be careful in assessing the ethical side of their decisions and show their concern for society by training ethical professionals whose expertise will be employed in the quest of collective well-being, in alleviating the suffering of the needy, in repositioning solidarity as a vital element in coexistence, and ensuring the loyalty, respect, tolerance and acceptance of existing rules are always elements in the exercise of the profession.
Before making a decision, before accepting a job, before taking an important step in life, people should ask themselves if they are behaving consistently with the integrity and the code of values that will allow you to live in peace with your own conscience.
The university should commit to the formation of trustworthy citizens, convinced that the end does not always justify the means.
Voltaire wrote: "Those who believe money can do everything are frequently prepared to do everything for money." A university graduate with a solid ethical training stands a better chance of not being seduced by the so-called seductive and perverse nature of corruption. And the university must meet the challenge, difficult but possible, to educate their men and women in the light of sound principles and values.
