There are many online digital photo printing services that provide fast and cheap photo printing services. One of the oldest and more reliable services is Snapfish.

Snapfish was not the first digital photo printing service, but it was the first to bring digital photo printing to mainstream consumers. Snapfish focused on real online experience with superb web-based user interface that allowed ease of use and short time from photo upload to digital printing order checkout. While Snapfish provided other services, such as digital photo sharing, its focus was always on digital photo printing. Snapfish was founded back in 2000 in the early days of the Internet. In 2000 bandwidth was not as pervasive as it is today, and the idea of uploading a large number of photos was not trivial. But Snapfish launched the service and bet on bandwidth becoming cheaper and more widespread, which is the case today. Snapfish also innovated with different upload methods that ease the pain of users that want to upload tens or hundreds of photos.

By using the latest technologies, such as Java, Ajax, and even downloadable applications, Snapfish provided a choice suitable for every user, from accidental one photo printer to professionals in need of printing a large number of digital photos. Snapfish became a very successful digital photo printing service, and in 2005 it was acquired by the giant Hewlett Packard to become the online photo printing division of HP. Snapfish is based in San Francisco, although being a pure online service, its office's location is really of no importance.

Snapfish grew to become a big service with an estimated 40 million users and over 1 billion digital photos on file. Snapfish also operates outside of the US with its biggest operations in its United Kingdom. Its subsidiary is known as Snapfish UK. Snapfish started with a small number of photo printing options; the most common one was 4 by 6 inches digital prints. But today Snapfish developed its product catalog, and it provides almost every imaginable digital photo printing service. In addition to printing digital photos on paper in different sizes, from the small 4 by 6 up to large enlargements spanning 20 by 30 inches, Snapfish also offers digital photo printing on a series of tangible objects that may be gift wrapped and shipped to any destination.

Some examples of objects on which digital photos can be printed are: coffee mugs, photo books, holiday cars, and calendars. Snapfish is not just a great digital photo printing service that caters to both amateurs and professional photographers, but it is also a low price cheap service that caters to the budget user. Snapfish offers 20 free photo prints for any new user in order to try out the service. Future prints are then billed as low as 9 cents for 4 by 6 digital photos, with discounts for high volume orders. Snapfish also provides a wide range of shipping options, from overnight shipping for users that are in a hurry and are willing to spend the money, to slow snail mail shipping that is very economic.
