Some Tips On Gardening

We've mentioned planning the garden before. However, here's a little different twist to this. If you plan to put some vegetables in your freezer locker this year, there are some varieties which are quite good for freezing purposes. So you may want to remember some of these before you purchase your seed.

They include for spinach, the Bloomsdale Long Standing, for peas, the Thomas Laxton or Laxton's Progress; for Mustard, Southern Giant, for Kale, Dwarf Blue Scotch; for broccoli, Green Sprouting; for cauliflower, Snowball; for green beans, Tendergreen and Tender Pod, for bush limas, Thorogreen (green seeded Henderson) and Fordhook 242 (large seded), for sweet corn, Golden Cross Bantam, for sweet potatoes, Nancy Hall, for summer squash, Early Yellow Summer (crookneck) ; for edible soybeans, Bansei and Aoda, for asparagus, Mary Washington, and for rhubarb, Mc- Donald and Ruby.

Of course there are other good varieties, but you won't go wrong by using the ones listed above. Freezing is an excellent way of holding the good, fresh flavor of fruits and vegetables. In most cases it is easier than canning although slightly more expensive.
