Offer things that you know customers would really want and need. For example, you can put up a free download for a collection of self-help articles. This is a guaranteed way to attract readers and motivate them to subscribe. Other examples could include a special giveaway for every purchase made, free product update notifications, and free e-book subscriptions.
2.) Permit reprinting of your articles.
Another effective tactic is writing articles that are free for publishing as long as the visitor officially requests for permission. Your site should have a request form where they will be required to enter their email addresses, names and other details.
3.) Prove to your visitors why they must subscribe.
People hate scam. Everyone does. This is the reason why many refuse to subscribe to free written content because they think it could be only mean more spam in their mails. On your landing page or signup page, convince your visitors that your newsletters are not another spam plans. Justify this by quoting testimonials from older customers and including some samples of the previous newsletter issues. Furthermore, make sure that you provide interesting and unique content for your newsletters so visitors will not grow tired of reading it and make them look forward to the next issue.
4.) Apply the fundamental tactics in search engine optimization
All written content in your site such as newsletters, articles, e-books, e-zines and web content must be written with the appropriate keywords included in them so that during search engine indexing, your content will be easily located. A simple concept that most Internet marketers fail to recognize is the importance of changing the names of title pages. So what if you have this outstanding article about Forex trading but on your site, it is named as "01896.html"? The search engines would not find it easily. Hence, rename! An example of a good title for it would be "generate-dollars-by-becoming-a-forex-trader.html." Also, if your content is embedded with the right keywords, it will have high rankings in the search engines when people try to search for materials related to it. This then increases the amount of traffic to your site.
5.) Administer a "membership drive"
Ask your visitors to assist you in getting more people to subscribe. Provide "Invite More Friends" options on your site and prompt visitors to send invite emails to friends and business colleagues. By having your visitors enter the email addresses of the recipients-to-be, you accumulate a lot of names you can use to build your list. To motivate them to invite more people, give away some kind of prize to the one who gets the most number of friends to subscribe.
