Today's economic news is not good. There is news everyday about increasing unemployment, new layoffs, and companies shutting down. Traditional employment is not always the best option in this economy. Finding a job is becoming more difficult. It can all be overwhelming. The good news is that there are recession-proof careers.

Some industries are still going strong and others, perhaps, doing even better than ever. Careers in these fields are the wave of the future. Discovery of these jobs and entry into these positions at a time like this will prove invaluable to you in the future. The earlier you begin to plan your career goals, the more certain your future will be. Once the economy regains stability, you will be in a good position.

Planning an education and choosing a career during a recession is not difficult once you understand which jobs and industries are recession-proof. It is essential to focus on jobs that are stable regardless of economic ups and downs. Shopping and entertainment jobs are subject to economic slumps, but healthcare, bookkeeping, and jobs in the energy field will always be needed. You can expect the following careers to remain stable despite the economy.

Teachers are always in demand. Our country is currently experiencing a shortage of good teachers. No matter what happens in the economy, children will still have to be educated and many adults return to school when they find themselves laid off or facing a career change. We always need teachers. The education of future generations depends on it, and, now, the ability of unemployed workers also depends on the availability of a good education. Teaching, therefore, is a good career move.

Another industry that remains unaffected regardless of the economy is healthcare. Advances in medication and longer life spans have created a greater need for specialized medical care for seniors. Health care administration is an information-driven career, which is appealing to those looking to move from information technology to a very stable career.

Auditors and accountants are always in demand and more so during a recession. Economic difficulties require businesses and individuals to monitor their expenses and books more carefully. They must also work to achieve greater tax deductions. Good accountants and Auditors prove invaluable during a recession.

Energy consumption often decreases during a recession, but the need for energy is not going anywhere. This applies to all utilities, including emerging fields of green energy. Careers in utilities development, maintenance and administration provide stable career options.

With the demand in health care high, there is a need for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. As long as doctors continue to prescribe medications, there will be a need for qualified pharmacists.

Another career option is joining the military. Living expenses are taken care of and you can earn education subsidies. The military is always recruiting, especially during times of war.

Security and law enforcement also remain strong during a recession. Unfortunately, increase in crime correlates with economic recession. This causes a need for greater security and law enforcement.
