Accountants Take CPE Very Seriously

Everyone wants to know that the professionals that they work with know what they are doing, and will do a good job. They want to know that these people know the appropriate laws and obey them so that they won't get into any trouble as a result of using them. This is why people like to choose professionals who are licensed or certified, such as certified public accountants.

Most states require you to get two to four hours of ethics instruction each year. CPAs that don't complete the requirements for CPE, including the required course hours in ethics, can lose their license until the requirement is met.

Many of these courses are self study. Some of these providers offer ethics CPE courses based on the state the accountant is located in, others offer general courses for those in any number of states.

You can choose your ethics CPE courses so that you do different courses different years since there are a lot of options. These range from Ethics Principles for CPAs, Ethics Rules and Interpretations for CPAs, Professional Ethics, Ethics for Accountants, CIA Ethics, CMA Ethics, Ethics and Professional Conduct, Ethics and Professional Responsibility for Enrolled Agents, Ethics and the Tax Professional, Ethics and the Tax Professional: Frivolous Tax Arguments and Scams, Ethics in Tax Practice, Ethics Standards, Fair Value Accounting Estimates Revealed, Ethics and CIA Certification, CPA Ethics - Tax Practice, CPA Ethics - General Studies, to Ethics - Assurance Concentration.

One useful website for finding CPE courses is the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) website. They have a link to the CPEMarket.com website, which is a resource meant to help people find appropriate courses.

Courses that meet the ethics CPE requirements are available in a number of different formats. They can be taken in person, or over the Internet through a webcast. It can be arranged for a course to be offered on location at a company, and many times they are offered at conventions. There are also self study options. However, some states require you to take a longer course if you choose the self study option.
