Those who are unemployed as well as those who have a job right now should make efforts to keep their cover letters samples updated. We suggest this because you can not always know when you will need to have a cover letter ready to apply for a particular job.

There is no harm in having these samples ready even when you do not need them but, if you do not have them when you really need them, it can cost you a great job. The process of getting your cover letter up to date should be done regularly. For those who are happy with their current position, it may not be necessary to do this more often than yearly. However, if you are in dire need of a job, it is a good ideal to examine these samples more often.

For example, if you are going after a higher level job make sure your cover letter demonstrates you are ready for the responsibility. Most people make the mistake of thinking their cover letter only needs to be updated when you change jobs or positions. This could not be further from the truth. Even if you are in the same position with the same company, your job responsibilities likely change on a regular basis.

By updating your cover letters samples on a regular basis, you prevent them from being outdated. This is very important because you want to make sure your cover letter conveys the message about the type of job you want to obtain.

If you are using the same cover letter from when you acquired your current job, you have some work to do. Sure this cover letter was good enough to help you land your current job. However, if you want to move up, this will not due.
