Many factors will determine starting up costs of a new child daycare operation and depending on your plans you could be up against anything ranging from $1000 up to a couple of hundred thousand dollars to get your child care business off the ground.

In the article below we set out some of the start up costs that you would have to budget for as you proceed to open your own business.

1) Premises - You would need a decent sum of funding if you wanted to lease a space for your daycare. The expenses involved with running a daycare from your home are considerably lower but remember that you will be sacrificing part of your family's living area to the business. This cost cannot be easily measured. Daycares operating out of houses also have set up costs though and you will need to figure in the cost of redecorating your house.

2) Legal Requirements and Business Licensing - You will need to apply for a business license and you will need to ensure that you are in compliance with all the rules and regulations set out by your city regarding daycare businesses.

3) Necessary Equipment - To make your child care center marketable you have to create a child friendly environment. The right furniture and decorations are needed to create an attractive environment for children and you will also need an outdoor playground, toys, books and art and craft supplies. Don't forget to always go with the best quality as children usually wear things out quickly in comparison to adults.

4) Daycare Administration - Set a room aside for an office or have an open office and reception area. Look into the costs involved with managing a small office such as PC set up and Internet connection, getting a phone line installed and other office related purchases.

5) Unexpected Expenses - Remember to include a generous allowance for unforeseen expenses that may come up. Some business owners also include an allowance for operating expenses for the first few months of the businesses life in their start up cost estimations. Your daycare most likely won't be making a profit during the first two or three months so you must know precisely how much capital you need to tide yourself over until the business is providing decent profits.

6) Marketing - To get word out about your new venture you will have to develop a simple brand concept and get a logo design. You will also have to plan advertising campaigns and budget for these accordingly.

Once you have listed your startup costs you can then match these up with the amount of funding that you have access to. You will then know that you either have to reduce your daycare startup costs or know that you have the luxury of scaling them up if necessary.
