I am pretty sure you know how a mosquito bite looks like. It is reddish and raised. But what if you have the same bite marks but no mosquito can be found anywhere in your house?
The culprit can be a flea. Are there red dots at the middle of the bites? If there are no red dots, these cannot be flea bites as well. The bites can be from bedbugs.
A bedbug bites during the night, although it is not nocturnal. And the bites usually have a pattern like 3 or more in a row. A bedbug bites humans or warm-blooded animals for blood, which is their food. Its name came from its preferred habitat: mattress or sofa.
Bedbug bites can be seen right after you are bitten. Or sometimes, it may take days for the bites to appear. The bite marks can be raised or flat welts that are pinkish or red. To be very sure, finding the bedbugs in your house is very important.
People have different reactions to the bites. Some do not feel any itch at all. Others do not get to sleep because of the relentless itching. And rarely, bedbug bites can cause allergic reactions. Although bedbug bites do not carry any disease, you can do something to relieve the pain and itching.
One option is warm water. Apply this on the bedbug bites. The water should be really warm for you to feel uncomfortable. If not, the water can worsen the bites.
Antihistamines and systemic corticosteroids also relieve itching. Unfortunately, these medicines cannot make the bites disappear.
Topical corticosteroids are used for both the itchiness and bite marks. If you feel itchy, do no scratch the bite marks because this can leave scars. You can wait for a few days or weeks for the bedbug bites to disappear.
