Negative calorie foods are a controversial diet that has been the basis of many arguments from dieters and dietitians alike. Argued by some as being a fantastic supplemental diet, and by others as being a foolish fad, it can be difficult figure out what's true and what's not. The online arguments make the confusion even worse as it becomes obvious that there are many very different interpretations as to what this diet is about and how this diet plan actually is laid out to be followed.

There are many dangerous fad diets out there, and it's a good thing to be cautious and protective to make sure that you're not undertaking a diet that is going to ruin your health. Negative calorie foods are considered by many to be a fad, and even the name causes a lot of confusion. So are negative calorie foods a fad diet or a dangerous myth?

There are a lot of arguments over this point. Many people argue that there can be no such thing as a "negative calorie." This is true, because there can't tangibly be anything with a negative value in real life. This isn't what the negative calorie foods diet is saying, however. What this diet is saying is that there are foods that force the body to work and take more calories to burn, digest, and process than the food has in it. This creates the "negative calorie" effect and therefore you have negative calorie foods.

The arguments are going to continue on whether caloric deficits exist or not, but this is a list of healthy fruits and vegetables that are high in fiber and water and low in calories. If someone stays full eating fruits and vegetables, and keeps the metabolism up because he/she is always eating, how could that person not lose weight? Negative calorie foods are meant to be a supplemental diet, and replacing high calorie, high carbohydrate, and high fat foods with vegetables and healthy fruit can only help.

The arguments may continue on, but does that really matter? Even if negative calorie foods do not truly produce a real life deficit in calories, eating a ton of high fiber and high water fruits and veggies will almost certainly help the majority of dieters lose weight.
