The easy availability of such drugs does not at all mean they are generic drugs that cater to the treatment of all sorts of anxiety disorders. Patients are not encouraged to purchase these drugs over the counter and are advised to seek medical consultation to determine the most appropriate course of treatment. Only medical professionals in the relevant field could prescript the accurate medication for best results.
For instance, Benzodiazepine is an anti anxiety medication that has an almost instant reaction in the body. You can take this medication 30 to 60 minutes before going into a stressful situation. For people who have acute but infrequent anxiety attacks, Benzodiazepine is the best anti-anxiety medication to take. However, due to it's addictive nature, it's best not to use Benzodiazepines for long term usage. The major side effect of prolonged use is that of seizures should you stop taking the medication abruptly.
Serotonin-specific reuptake inhibitors or more commonly referred to as SSRIs belongs to another category of antidepressant drug. These drugs are preferred among patients for its effectiveness in lowering acute anxiety. Furthermore, SSRIs have low addiction levels and the subtle side effects compared to other medication. The natural level of serotonin is increased to maximum level by the SSRIs drug to treat depression.
Paxil works by stopping Serotonin, the neurotransmitter which determines our moods, from being reabsorbed by the body. This is to allow more serotonin to be produced so that the body has enough when the need arises. Paxil are not known to deliver instant results for depression symptoms and are not administered to patients which require immediate recovery. The drug takes 2 to 6 weeks to have a significant effect on our system to bring about recovery. Side effects of Paxil include sleepiness and dry mouth.
There's also the anti anxiety medication dopamine agonists, which increases the levels of dopamine in the brain. Like SSRIs dopamine agonists take a few weeks to show relief from anxiety. The side effects of this class of drugs, includes insomnia and extreme excitedness among others. The last type of anti anxiety medication that is currently being used is that of Buspar. This drug is a mild anti anxiety medication that has little to no reporting of addiction usage. Like SSRIs and dopamine agonists discussed earlier, Buspar takes a while for its medical properties to take effect.
There is no doubt that antidepressant has been proven effective in combating depression and is proven safe for consumption. Nevertheless, patients should never underestimate the importance of consulting a medical practitioner before deciding on which drug will be the most suitable.
