When the best NBA players come to mind, Dwyane Wade is right up there with Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and others. And with good reason. Wade is a premier player in the NBA, and has found great success with the Miami Heat in his five years in the league.
One of the game's top scorers, Wade has a huge base of fans, and not only consisting of those who like the Heat. While Miami attendance is typically low, Wade had more jerseys with his name on it sell than any other jersey in the NBA for about two seasons.
Wade was part of a very talented rookie class that included the likes of LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, and others, but Wade has never disappointed the Miami Heat. Right out of the gates, he became the team's leading scorer and was largely responsible for their first ever NBA title in 2006.
Aside from his contributions to the Miami Heat, Wade has been extremely loyal to his country, playing for the US basketball Olympic team twice. Once in 2004, and again in 2008. Wade was believed by many to be the team's most valuable player during the 2008 summer Olympics.
Wade's versatility makes him unique in the sense that he can play both shooting guard and point guard. He has usually led his team in scoring and assists, and has even come close to leading the Heat in rebounds. He seems to do it all on the court.
After a season that left Wade out due to injury for most of 2007-2008, many were wondering what to expect of him in 08-09. Wade came back with fury, and led the NBA in points scored per game. He was often the discussion of MVP talk as well.
Wade is able to get to the free throw line seemingly at will; he ranked first in free-throw attempts per 48 minutes in 2004-05 and again in the 2006-07 season. He has proven himself an unselfish player, averaging 6.4 assists per game. Wade is a devout Christian and chose the number 3 because it represents the Holy Trinity.
Wade has a wife (Siohvaughn) and two young children, Dwyane Jr. and Zaire. His wife dates all the way back to his childhood.
