Shocks and struts are so much more important to our driving than just keeping a smooth drive. I've recently found out how shocks and struts work and how to know when it's time to get them fixed.
Shocks and struts don't just prevent bouncing all over the road, they also allow us to have more control as we drive. If we didn't have shocks and struts, driving would be pretty scary as we tried to control the car while we are bouncing everywhere.
A lot of times when we drive a new car the comfort and safety we are really feeling are great shocks and struts. There are so many different types now that you can buy, if you want to have that new car tight driving feel, all you really need are some new shocks.
How do shocks and struts work so well? Hydraulic fluid is pushed through the valves in the pistons, which causes that tight resistance because of how little oil can actually be pushed through. Because oil cannot be compressed, it works perfect with your shocks and struts to allow you to feel a tight comfortable ride.
There isn't just one type of shocks and struts that you can buy. There are many different types and many advanced ones that use nitrogen gas instead of hydraulic fluid. These are usually the superior shocks that you will be able to feel a definite difference with.
Everything in your car will naturally start to reduce in efficiency as time goes on, your shocks are no different. Even thought great maintenance work will prolong your shocks and struts, they still won't last forever. In fact, areas that are prone to ice, gravel, and heavy rainfall will wear out your shocks faster.
Do you have questions as to whether your shocks and struts need to be replaced? You will know the answer to that if you can feel every rock in the road or if your car bounces around too much when you pull up to a stop or turn. These are all major indicators that your shocks need to be looked at.
So, with the information above you should know whether or not it might be time to take your shocks in to get checked out. This can be for a repair or if you just want a tighter drive.
