People have different interpretations on things that they see like the Celtic cross tattoo designs. True enough, these tats can delineate multiple meanings depending on the person who wear them and the person who look at them. These tattoos can represent either heritage, faith or a combination of both.

Most people perceive that a tattoo designed into a Celtic cross is an emblem of the Christian faith and belief. While this may be frequently true, the cross tattoo may bear a different significance for people who have other convictions.

The Celtic cross designs can also represent a person's custom and tradition. Talking about this, you get to understand that this body art of tattoo was not strictly created by the Welsh, Scottish, British and Irish people. There was a firm connection between the Scandinavians and other tribes long time ago, and this had given rise to the exchange and integration of many parts in their culture and life. The resemblance of the Celtic design to the Norse art may just be a sign of their exchanges in customs.

A cross is considered as a supernatural light by the Pagans. In their eyes, the four points of the cross are representations of the four directions - east, west, north and south. Some people may also consider them as symbols of the four basic elements - earth, wind, water and fire, and the intersection of the cross is believed to be the joining forces of these elements. If there is a circle surrounding the cross, it is perceived as where the physical and the spiritual worlds meet with each other.

To the Christians, the Celtic cross is a symbol of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, while the circle represents the perpetual nature of the universe and the Christian's undying faith to the God.

Now, let us take a look at different styles of Celtic tattoos. The most basic one is a simple cross arranging itself inside a circle, and this style is the traditional Celtic cross. The classic Triquetra cross is quite prominent, with the whole exterior enclosed with various designs. These body modification pieces are drawn entirely from a knot with three triangular edges to stand for the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, otherwise known as the Holy Trinity.

The most popular Celtic cross tattoo designs are the knot crosses. These styles are also the most typical body art one would encounter. The Celtic knots are flawless because they have no beginning and ending points. Most of the time, the knot works are structured in the form of a cross or the cross itself may be designed totally from the knots. These tattoo styles can be either simple or complicated depending on one's preference. Simple Celtic cross tattoos are constructed with four single knots that are looped, while more intricate designs are made with larger series of intertwining knots.

In case you are choosing your first tattoo, you will not go wrong with the Celtic cross design. The tattoo fans will agree that this design is not just classic but also evocative.
