You made it to 50, or 60, or 70 years old. But now you walk into a room to get something and forget what it was you came for. Or you forget what you were supposed to take to your daughter's house today. Or even though you wrote it on the calendar, you forget an appointment you made three weeks ago. And at this point in your life, you don't have three little kids and five pets running around to distract you and blame your forgetfulness on.
There is something you can do about it, and most likely it is not a symptom of some dread disease like Alzheimer's. Don't settle for "just getting older."
When you get up in the morning, put a CD on the player and dance. Go ride a bike. Take a morning walk. Or you can spend some money and join a gym or take exercise classes, but you don't have to. Exercise is free, and one of the best ways to improve your memory.
Dance around a little every day, and you'll find you sleep better, your mood improves and your nervousness will disappear. And everybody's top of the list for self-improvement - you might lose some pounds. But there are unseen benefits, too - cardio-vascular function improves, antioxidants increase lessening the risk of cancer, good cholesterol improves, lessening the risk of heart attack, etc.
Eat some fish - that improves memory, right? Or is that a myth? But eating healthy foods and taking vitamin and mineral supplements does indeed improve memory,. Fish is a pretty good meal, so maybe it's not a myth. Vitamin C is especially helpful and vital for a lot of body functions. You might consult a nutritionist to find out what vitamins and minerals would be helpful specifically for you, but you can find out a lot of information on the Internet and in books.
Insufficient hormones also affect memory loss. The older you get, the less your endocrine glands produce. And those lacking hormones are definitely producing the effects of aging. If you had the same hormone levels you had when you were 30, you would feel young again. So why don't we just take a pill?
Well, it's not quite that simple, but yes, you can take a pill of hormones and begin to restore the body's hormone levels to the same amount you had when you were young. For this step, medical testing is necessary to determine which hormones need replacement and in what quantity, and the pill is a prescription from a doctor. Women often do this step, but it is equally beneficial for men.
Since hormone replacement does work and there is money to be made, you can imagine drug companies would take the easiest route to producing them - and they do. There are plenty of hormones for sale that won't be effective. The important thing to remember is to replace hormones with bioidentical hormones - that is, hormones of the same chemical structure as the ones produced in your body. In this way, the body can actually use them.
So act now to improve your memory and other symptoms of age. Enjoy a lively and productive "old age.
