Five Myths And Mistakes To Avoid In Resume Writing

A resume is a vital document that makes you known to the employer. A resume could certainly get you selected or get you rejected. You need to mention every single detail of your job profile that relates to the post you are applying for. Write it in a professional manner. Your format and layout should be perfect and up to the mark. Avoid making any types of mistakes.

So now, given below are the most common myths and errors to avoid while crafting a resume:

1. Myth - Resume should not exceed 2 pages. It has been rightly said that a resume should not be too lengthy. The reader does not have unlimited time to go through your entire life details. You do not have much time to grasp the attention of employer, as he has to go through hundreds of resumes everyday. It has also been seen that with every additional page you trim down your chances of getting appointed. Always talk about necessary things.

2. Myth - Always write a clear and specific job objective. A job objective is the most important part of your resume. It is written to induce the employer read your whole resume. It should clearly show what do you want to be and how? So write an objective that is simple to understand.

3. Myth - In a resume talk specifically about your credentials. It is your resume so talk as much about your credentials that relate to the job you are applying for. The punctuation and the grammar should be good and up to the mark. Portray your skills that could help you secure the job.

4. Myth - Resumes should only consist of achievements and experiences of past ten years. The employer only wants to know about your fresh achievements, the things that you have achieved in the past 10 years. So, only talk about those things that the employer wants you to. If you want you could mention one or two lines regarding the academic achievements.

5. Myth - Resumes should comprise your personal information, to show your diverse interests.
This is one of the most frequent mistakes that people make. Your private affairs and family status have no place in your resume. So, do not talk about all such private information.
