The discussion of hemorrhoids doesn't occur that often. In fact, most people prefer to keep this subject to themselves. There are many home treatments available for hemorrhoids. For many of these treatments, you don't need to buy anything extra at the store.
Be extremely gentle when wiping. An easy home treatment is to switch to some softer toilet paper. If you have just recently bought that 48 pack of semi-rough stuff and don't want to waste it, then lube it up. You can moisten it with water or put some lotion on it.
Try to take it easy when wiping. Scrubbing with your toilet paper will not feel good at all. If you're toilet paper is of sandpaper quality, try moistening it with some water. You can add some lotion to it instead, if you prefer. Baby wipes are the store-bought version of this.
Ice will make hemorrhoids shrink. When using this method, apply the ice for 10 minutes at a time, followed by a warm compress for 10 minutes also. If holding ice on your hemorrhoids for 10 minutes is a home treatment that makes you grimace, try witch hazel and apply it with a cotton ball.
Soaps with dyes and perfumes may smell nice, but they irritate inflamed hemorrhoids. It is preferable to wear cotton and loose clothing also. Cotton doesn't allow moisture to build up. The loose clothing is helpful in not constricting the swollen area or rubbing on it.
If the pain is causing too much discomfort, take some acetaminophen (Tylenol). It should ease the pain. Avoid taking ibuprofen or aspirin, these only make the bleeding much worse. As for the itching, hydrocortisone works wonders.
Hopefully these home treatments will help alleviate your hemorrhoid situation. Lifting heavy objects will also increase the pressure on these veins and make matters worse, no matter what treatments you are using. Try to remember to be extra gentle. You don't want to irritate the hemorrhoids further!
