There are many different types of dog clothing that dog owners use for different reasons. Dog clothing may be used to help a dog stay warm or just because the dog owner likes the clothing. Dog clothing ranges from thin sweaters sold commercially in pet stores, handmade dog costumes for Halloween, to designer hoodies.

Dog clothing prices depend on the type of dog clothing and whether it is from a designer or small business. Cheap dog sweaters often can be found on websites of small businesses for under ten dollars. Designer dog clothing is much more expensive. Some designer dog clothing can cost over one hundred dollars.

A common type of dog sweaters fits snuggly around the dog's neck and chest and around the dog's front legs. The bottom of the sweater typically lies on the back of the dog. Dog sweaters that are sold at pet stores do not usually resemble sweaters for people like designer and handmade dog sweaters do. They may be thin pieces of knit material with a hole for the dog's head or strings to tie around the dog.

Some small, shorthaired dogs may need the extra warmth from a dog sweater. Dog sweaters are often used on other dogs if the dogs are to spend time outdoors in cold weather.

Dog sweaters come in a variety of colors and styles. Designer dog sweaters tend to be more classic designs while dog sweaters from small or home-based businesses tend to have more brightly colored and whimsical collections.

Halloween dog costumes and dog costumes for other holidays are popular among some dog owners. Halloween dog costumes come in a large selection of themes such as princess or angel costumes.

Some small businesses and designers make dog t-shirts. The majority of dog t-shirts have whimsical decals or prints. Designer dog t-shirts are usually much more expensive than those available through small or home-based businesses.

Most dog clothing that is mass produced is made only for small dogs. If a dog owner of a larger dog wants dog clothing, some small businesses will make customized dog clothing to fit a dog.

Very few dog clothing items are typically available at pet stores. Dog clothing such as sweaters, t-shirts, and hoodies can be found by doing a search on an Internet search engine. Designer dog clothing by Juicy Couture or Ralph Lauren can be found on their websites.
