Learning How To Prepare Your Label Designs

Reviewing the design for label printing is not just a matter of looking at the color labels as they are. Like label printing itself, it is important to have a system that checks each of the important aspects for a label design.

As a reference for designers out there, I have written below a few reminders on how to prepare your label designs for the printer.

• Reviewing your content – Most people review their content for labels electronically. This is to say that they use the automatic spell check feature to make sure spellings are correct. This however has some weaknesses since grammar errors can also be present in the content of your product labels.

Therefore, it is important for you to set aside time and manually check all the text content. Try to do this first before your actual design process so that the designers will not have to worry too much.

• Reviewing your designs – Now, in checking designs, it is usually good to note the amount of fuzziness or distortions in the design. The common problem with printing labels is that the images are not quite in the highest resolution possible to make it look good. So make sure you search for fuzziness and distortion to make sure the design is in the topmost quality.

• Reviewing your layout – The layout and composition itself of the label should also be checked. Design elements must be spaced evenly throughout the design. The center of the design as well must always be emphasized with wider spaces and a lighter color. In addition, there must be some blank border space around the label so that there is a buffer somewhat when the printer cuts your labels for mass production

• Reviewing your format – You should also try to check if your file format is appropriate for printing. Is it in the file document format that the printer will accept? Is it in the right CMYK color mode? Reviewing these things is important since it will save you a lot of time in editing and converting your documents in the future. So ask first the ideal format so that you know what file format to start with, in your design.

• Reviewing your options – Finally, you should also always check what options you set for printing your labels. Will you use thick paper or thin paper, colored inks or spot inks? Of course, you should remember the question about coating for protection against the elements. Try to decide on what you really want and only pay for the features that you get.

Therefore, if you review all five aspects of your labels as was shown above, you should be well on the green light for label printing. There will be little to worry about once the printing started. Good Luck!
