An estimate is to furnish you with an approximate cost of your move. North America Transfer will go over packing services, valuation, your move schedule and any special needs you might have. When you have set the day to move notify your sales rep immediately to schedule your desired pick up and delivery dates. The last week of a month and the period from May through September are extremely busy, and advance notice is recommended.
Moving companies usually require a deposit, before the move. Then you can pay the balance at the time of delivery. You will want to check with your moving company to see what forms of payment are excepted for the balance on the delivery date.
Moving companies will present you with a Bill of Lading. This authorizes the company to move your belongings. They will also have to complete a Household Goods Descriptive Inventory usually this is done by the driver. This will include brief notes of your goods condition. You will need to sign this. If you have more services that are needed, the Additional Services Preformed Origin/Destination Service report will also be completed by the driver and need signed by you.
During the unloading process, you need to check off items on your copy of the inventory sheet. Make sure you know where you want your furniture since the movers are only required to place your furniture once. When the movers unpack you they take items out of the boxes and place them on a table of counter. You may request they dispose of the used materials and containers when they are done if a crew unpacks you. Keep in mind, unpacking is not included in your quote, you need to request this from your sales representative.
Even though the movers are very careful sometimes there may be items that are lost or damaged. Should this happen completely unpack all of you belongings. Make a list of any damaged or lost items. On your Bill of Lading there is a registration number that you will use when you call the Customer Service Department. Claim forms will be mailed quickly. You have two months from date of delivery to file your claim. However, it is suggested that you file as soon as possible.
