There's no sightseeing like Torrevieja sightseeing. Here is why you should visit the Costa Blanca region of Spain.
Torrevieja is located at the south end of the world-renowned "White Coast" of Spain. Torrevieja offers a very mild climate, plenty of sun and miles of white beaches to enjoy. It is within easy reach of Alicante Airport. What was once a quiet salt-mining and fishing town has become a booming resort city.
Do you want to do something different this vacation? Try taking a salt bath. Many people say the salt lakes of Torrevieja can ease arthritis and various skin diseases. The salt water baths are warm most of the year. You will have a delightfully soothing experience. This can be an excellent way to relax your muscles after playing a round or two on the area's fine golf courses.
Another unique attraction is the Museum of Sea and Salt. Here you can find out about Torrevieja's salt industry. You can also view many models made of salt, include ships. There is also a real submarine and archeological artifacts to investigate.
Spain has a long religious history so be sure to visit the Holy Week Museum of Tomas Valcarcel, created by a local artist to honor the city's Passion Week processions. These processions are a beloved tradition and so the museum is closed that week before Easter so you can experience the real thing. The procession is very impressive and worthy of a permanent museum, so you can experience the artistry that goes into each one.
Torrevieja loves a party so it hosts a festival nearly every month. The Christmas season always sees three back-to-back celebrations, spring brings Easter celebrations and the May fair, while summer is by far the busiest season. There is even a festival honoring tourists that takes place each August. In fall, take part in the Festival of Vendimia, the El Pilar festival and the annual All Saints Day festivities. When you have set a date for your vacation, look online to see what events are planned. It is always fun to vacation during a festival.
When you are not sightseeing, there is still plenty to do. There are many charming boutiques and gift shops to explore. Also be sure to sample the delicious cuisine available at the many restaurants in the area.
As you can see there is plenty to see and do in Torrevieja. You certainly will not be bored. You may get tired though. Fortunately, there is a wide range of accommodations to suit every budget and need. If you are traveling with small children, you may find renting a villa a reasonable option in order to give the little ones a quiet place to nap.
When you visit, don't be surprised at the many cultures you will experience. The Costa Blanca has long been Europe's vacation and retirement destination. You will meet people from Scandinavia, Germany and Britain, many of whom have chosen to settle here permanently. After one visit, you may want to do the same.
