Are you bored of your glasses? You can reduce the use of the spectacles or contacts by going through with Lasik surgery. This corrective can even allow you to stop using them permanently. Lasik stands for laser in situ keratomileusis. Lasik involves the use of a laser that goes beneath the cornea flap (in situ) to change the curvature of the cornea (keratomileusis). Lasik is performed to perfect your vision and helps minimize or eliminate refractive problems.

The main procedures in all lasik surgeries are the same. The eye doctor uses a particular type of laser-eximer which has a number of manufacturers - like Visx, Wavelight, Alcon, Bausch & Lomb, Nidek and others. But, there are a variety of different types of laser methods such as conventional laser treatments, wave front-optimized treatments, and wave front-guided treatments.

First, the conventional laser treatment is the most typical kind. The procedure is based on the eye glasses prescription of the patient. It uses specific parameters of treatment for different patients. Even though this type of treatment is the most popular, it has the potential for side effects like glare, halos, and night vision - side effects not found in the other types.

Second, the wave-front optimized treatment is available. This procedure is performed using the Wavelight laser. Along with the technology of the conventional technique this procedure type enables even further details to be incorporated into the procedure. The curvature and thickness of the cornea is measured and an application of laser technology is used in the corneal periphery. Most of all, it has been rated much higher than the former Lasik type by eliminating the shortcomings.

Finally, the a wave-front guided surgery is available. It is also sometimes called Custom Lasik or Wave-front Lasik. It is the same as the conventional laser treatment, with one exception. In this process severe irregularities in the optical system of a patient can be identified beforehand. It is done using specialized wavefront mapping.

LASIK surgery, like all treatments, has some risks and complications which you should be aware of. There can be under and over correction post-surgery. There are chances that you might still need glasses or contact lenses. In addition, there is a chance that the results might not be permanent. Your original eyesight might even end up affected and deviated. Worst instance, you may possibly even lose your eyesight.

Regardless of these risks and complications, lasik surgery is still considered to be safe and extensively used for eyesight correction all over the world. For the most part, it permanently cures all sorts of vision conditions. It involves only minimum hospital stay and is extremelyaffordable from the patient's perspective. In most cases, a sole surgical process ensures a permanent vision cure.

There are a few other things that you should know if you opt for lasik surgery: Your refractive error, treatment options, type of laser prescribed and reason for such recommendation. Memorize your corneal shape and curvature, career issues, vision stability, age, corneal thickness, medical or eye diseases, pupil size, dry eyes and any previous eye surgeries, so that you can chat with the doctor.

Be careful and do proper survey when choosing your doctor. He or she should be experienced, well reputed in his specialty, and have access to the most advanced techniques and machines. He or she should be reachable post-surgical process in case of problems.

Lasik surgery is an excellent surgical process option for the correction of the power of your eyes. Consider the things discussed above and you'll feel better prepared to discuss this surgical procedure with your eye doctor to decide if a particular surgery is the best one for you.
