How nice to be an active participant in making our lives healthier and the environment safer and cleaner. In as simple as decorating your home, you can go for eco-friendly products. Rugs are great accents to brighten up your home's interior and you can buy those that are made of natural materials. Natural rugs have several benefits such as the following:

A primary plus point of natural fiber rugs is its non-toxicity. They are made without polymers - chemicals used for artificial rugs that cause pollution, therefore hazardous to the environment. Natural fiber rugs don't only look nice but they are long lasting and health-friendly.

There are various types of natural fibers used in the manufacture of rugs. The common ones are wool, bamboo, sisal, hemp, jute, sea grass, mountain grass and even paper.

Bamboo has been a widely used plant for centuries. It has been around for such a long time that a lot of products are made from or partially integrated with bamboo. Rugs made from this plant are popular because of the strong material that lasts for a long time. Bamboo has a pale tan color and the same is seen with its rugs. However, the color can be stained into a darker tone for a more striking look. Bamboo rugs are made with cotton cloth.

Sisal rugs are resilient and long-lasting, too. Sisal is a fiber from the cactus Agave sisalana, native to Africa and Brazil. The fibers are formed into flexible, strong rope, and this rope is used to make beautiful rugs, that add appeal to any working or living space. People like using sisal rugs because they are resistant to stains, and do not accumulate static electricity. From a rug maker's point of view, sisal goes very well with other fibers and can be used to make combination rugs with materials like sea grass and wool. These rugs shouldn't be used in wet or moist areas like bathrooms or kitchens.

Coir, a material made from the husk of a coconut, is drawn into rope and woven into rugs. Coir can easily be dyed, so these rugs come in a wide range of striking designs and colors.

Another excellent natural material for rugs is hemp. This highly versatile plant has qualities that make it ideal as a rug material - it is resistant to static, water and stains. Hemp rugs are very comfortable, too.

Jute rugs are usually cheap, so if you plan to hoard on natural rugs, you can hit the sky with this one. No worries though for you will not be sacrificing quality with a bargain. Jute rugs are well woven and strong despite its soft texture. Jute, the fiber it's been made, is very soft. And aside from rugs, it is often used for producing bags, sacks and mats.

The other natural fibers are: paper rugs which are nice looking and sturdy; sea grass rugs which are very cheap and durable; and mountain grass rugs which are hard materials but nonetheless, a value for the money.

So there is plenty to choose from as far as natural fiber rugs are concerned - pick one out for your home today!
