Steel buildings have come a long way from the old military quonset huts that looked like half a soup can buried in the ground. Just like the TV show that helps people "pimp their rides," there are so many accessories and upgrades available these days to pimp your steel building. If you're looking to keep your steel building prices low when you request your quotes, then you can limit yourself to what we call just a "simple box" metal building, no bells or whistles added.
But if you're trying to keep up with the Joneses in your neighborhood, or want your farm to stand out so your new steel barn doesn't look like the run-of-the-mill cookie cutter building, then you're going to want to become familiar with the possible upgrades and accessories available for prefab steel buildings.
For the rest of this article I will be going over some of the options that are available to you and some terminology that comes with them, this way you know exactly what you are looking for when comparing prices for your steel building.
Wainscoting for instance has mostly been done in a colonial style home, this is where wood panels are used to line the lower portions of the inter walls. We are able to do this same thing on the steel building as well but on the outside of the building.
You can pick one color of sheeting to be applied from the ground up to a standard of three or four feet, then a different color of sheeting to be applied from the top of the wainscoting to the eave of the prefab building. It's a great technique to use to match your steel garage to your house by using your house trim color as the wainscot color.
Another upgrade that will make your metal garage more attractive is overhangs. They can definitely improve the look and performance of steel barns. Overhangs are simply extensions of the roof. Large overhangs can be added to prefab metal buildings to create sheltered areas and increase outside storage capacity. If you choose to add overhangs to your building, adding soffits (the underside of the overhang) close everything in and add to the attractiveness of the look you're trying to create.
Wanting to add something really unique to your building to make it stand out above the rest, add a Cupola. This is nothing more than a simple mini building that will sit on the peak of your own building. There is also a weather vane to add some additional style.
These steel building accessories and upgrades I've described are just a few of the options out there available to create a unique and beautiful addition to your property. So when you're figuring out your overall budget, remember to include a little extra to make your steel building stand out above the rest.
