The purpose of a fireplace as a source of heat during winter season has become almost obsolete with the birth of contemporary heating appliances. A fireplace is now more of an added feature to indicate an architectural taste of the homeowner. In fact, a fireplace has the ability to claim the awe of any visitor not because of its function but because of its grandiose, especially if it's complete with the necessary accessories such as the fireplace screen, log racks, iron and other embellishments.

Among all the accessories, the one that adds more character to the fireplace is the fireplace screen. There are different designs of screens, which can vary from the traditional to the most modern of style. A traditional designed screen has a simple yet classic look. Its uncomplicated design can complement any interior decoration. An antique designed screen usually is patterned after the look of the Victorian era. Its design is more elaborate, dominated by floral, swirl and scroll patterns. These kinds of screens go well with formally designed homes and should have matching accessories to achieve the desirable overall look.

There's also the chic designer fireplace screen. These screens are for houses that boast of their modern construction. A designer screen is very stylish and forward. It should belong to a cutting-edge decor to complement its style. An outdoor designed screen is for homeowners that have developed a fascination for outdoor activities. Generally, an outdoor screen has a black finish and is safe to use with any kind of decoration theme.

Your choice of colour for your fireplace screen is very important as it can diminish or enhance the total look of your fireplace. You want to consider the main colour of your interior decoration before deciding on a screen colour. Warm interior colours are very tricky and would demand a colour of screen that would not contrast badly to their shades. For milder wall colours and decoration, you can use white, aluminium and anything that falls within those shades. Black, on the other hand, is your safest bet when in doubt as it complements anything.

A fireplace screen can be panelled, made of stained glass or it can have doors. These are decorative screens that can enhance the look of your fireplace. A panelled screen may have one or several folded panels. A screen with doors can be opened without having to move the entire screen to access the fire. A fireplace screen made of stained glass is very colourful and vibrant. It can have striking designs with bold colours.

Before heading to a store to purchase a fireplace screen make sure that you have collected the exact measurements of your fireplace to be able to buy the right screen size for it. Always keep in mind to give room to extra inches to make sure that it can stand against the fireplace perfectly.
