Ovarian cysts are something that a lot of women have to deal with. Cysts on the ovaries can be painful and scary thing. Ovarian cysts are small sacs filled with fluid that can develop on a woman's ovaries. Most cysts can be harmless, but some may cause you problems like bleeding and pain. Surgery may be necessary to remove these cysts.

Ovarian cysts are usually noncancerous in younger women. Older women should be careful because ovarian cysts can become cancerous the longer they go untreated. Cysts may be found in ovarian cancer, but ovarian cysts usually just represent a harmless condition. It is not uncommon to have small pea size cysts that you do not even know are there.

You may not know if you have ovarian cyst. You can not depend on symptoms to tell you if you have ovarian cyst because it is likely you will haven none. If you do have symptoms they may be similar to other conditions. You should still keep an eye out for symptoms just in case. If you think you have a cyst or even do not know for sure then go to your doctor for an exam.

Menstrual irregularity can be a symptom of cyst on the ovaries. Heaviness and fullness in the abdomen or pressure on the bladder and rectum can be a symptoms also. Menstrual cycles can become painful and having intercourse can be painful too. The pain may vary quite drastically.

Your doctor will determine if your cyst should be removed or not. Usually the doctor will only remove the cyst if it is cancerous, painful, very larger, or twisted. If the doctor decides to remove the cyst you should be prepared for a physical exam, blood and urine test, and maybe even an ultrasound or x-ray before the surgery.

You can decide between two different procedures. The first is a very noninvasive procedure called laparoscopic surgery. Next is the open surgery which can be very invasive. It can require up to two weeks to recover. The laparoscopic surgery only takes about a week to recover from the pain. It does not matter which one you have you are going to need to rest to give your body time to get over the surgery
