There are so many couples out there that long for a baby boy, but each time they get pregnant, they find out that they are having a little girl. Are you wondering how to have a baby boy and whether it is even possible to pick your baby's gender?

As you know, it is the sperm from the male that determines what the gender of the baby is going to be. We know this because the egg in the woman contains only the X chromosome whereas sperm contains both X and Y chromosomes. You can use this knowledge of how to have a baby boy to increase your odds of conceiving a male child.

Y sperm is the one that swims faster to get to that egg. As long as the cervical environmental is right, the Y sperm has a better shot at fertilizing an egg. So theoretically boys have an edge over girls. But Y sperm is weaker and doesn't have a long enough lifespan to make the arduous trip to the egg waiting in the fallopian tube.

Male sperm will die off before the X sperm. For this reason, if you have sexual intercourse between four to two days before ovulation, then the chances of any Y sperm surviving is considerably reduced. The X or female sperm can live longer, up to seven days in the reproductive tract, and have the ability to fertilize the egg upon ovulation.

If you are able to track your ovulation cycle, you can time intercourse to coincide with the release of an egg into the fallopian tube. There are various ways to monitor ovulation, including rising basal temperature or even better, ovulation testing kits which can detect changes in luteinizing hormone (LH) levels in the urine which in turn indicates ovulation is about to occur.

How to have a baby boy can be made a bit easier if the father makes a few lifestyle changes. By quitting smoking and alcohol use, a male can significantly improve sperm count. Y sperm don't fare well under hostile conditions such as high body heat, tight clothes or strenuous activity. Eliminating or reducing these factors can help your body produce stronger, healthier sperm and increase your chances of the Y sperm being the one to fertilize an egg and produce that bouncing baby boy you want so much.

Learning how to have a baby boy is something that you can do without expensive clinical procedures. Of course, if you're having trouble conceiving, you should consult your doctor. Find out from your doctor if you should make changes in your diet to create a baby boy-friendly conditions in your body. With a bit of effort you may soon find yourselves the proud parents of an adorable baby boy.
