With London Fashion Week under way and the spring season just around the corner, we take a look at what footwear is getting the fashion pack all excited. From workwear shoes to casual pumps to red carpet glamour, there are new trends for us all to look forward to.
When it comes to print and colour trends, the neon boldness of last season is still around, but designers have toned the whole look down on their latest catwalk shows. Instead of all over bright and bold shades of 80s rave pink and green, the trend is now for splashes of bright colour, accentuating the architecture of the shoe.
In stark contrast to the phosphorescent glow of last seasons must-haves, spring and summer 2010 looks set to be swamped with earthy and natural tones. Far easier for the working woman to wear, beiges, taupes and khakis bring a sophisticated summery feel to the women's shoes this coming season.
When it comes to detailing, the emphasis is again on natural textiles. A far cry from last seasons buckles and studs, this season sees an emphasis on natural cork, various woods, as well as nautical rope.
The sky still seems to be the limit when it comes to shoe height this season. With heels easily exceeding 6 inches on the catwalks, it seems that if you want to wear heels this year you are going to have to put in some practice as stilettos and sandals will be reaching teetering new heights.
Fringing is everywhere on the catwalk shows this season, with Burberrys new suede fringed and heeled shoe boots now being declared a must-have item. This footwear accent trend is versatile and lends itself to boots, shoe boots and sandals too.
Wedge heels were certainly big news recently, and it seems they are powering their way through this year, not least because they help designers achieve even greater heel heights, but also because they show off wonderfully this seasons new trends for natural accenting with cork, rope and wood.
As the sun starts shining and you are wondering what sandal is the one for you this season, think bold accenting. Last years sandals were bold all over, but this year, instead of choosing a heavy-all-over shoe, go for a minimal design like a t-bar, but add boldness with a thick ankle collar.
