It is easy to forget when you take a look around diverse, cosmopolitan, trendy Birmingham today that this city was once the workshop of the world, the heart of the Industrial Revolution in the UK. This is a forward-looking city, yet its rich heritage is everywhere to be seen.

You too can delve into the treasure chest of Birmingham's history. A visit to the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery will always be a rewarding experience, definitely worth a visit. It houses stunning and significant works from around the world, as well as a great collection of pre-Raphaelite paintings.

Take time out to see a show at one of Birmingham's many popular venues. The city's Hippodrome is an incredible, grandiose Auditorium with space for 2,000 spectators. There is also the Alexandra which hosts drama, musicals, concerts and comedy, as well as the Birmingham Repertory Theatre where you can enjoy interesting, exciting and provocative modern drama.

Musicians of all brands, and from all over the world, come to perform in Birmingham. They perform at great venues like the Symphony Hall, widely regarded as one of the finest concert halls across the continent, as well as the NIA and the LG Arena. There are plenty of smaller places around and about the city where you'll always find something right up your street.

If you are in need of some retail therapy, then this is a city for you. The modern, state-of-the-art Bullring shopping centre is home to a Selfridges as well as plenty more exciting stores. New Street, High Street and Corporation Street are where you should head to find many more outlets worth popping into.

The cosmopolitan essence of this modern, forward-looking city is there for any and all to taste in the wide range of restaurants on offer for you to go and visit. Birmingham is of course the home of the balti: the Balti Triangle is a dazzling part of town where the spices and flavours of Asia are there for you to experience.

Not only this, but Birmingham is a great party town too, where you can enjoy a memorable night out. Big venues like Gatecrasher Birmingham, Q Club, and Oceana are the places to go to find world-famous club nights. Elsewhere, Mechu is a fine establishment where you'll be able to sip champagne all through the night in the swish VIP lounge.

In addition to everything on offer in the city itself, it isn't far to go to find ?olde? English retreats in surrounding Shropshire, Warwick and Shakespeare's home Stratford-upon-Avon. Birmingham offers so much to all kinds of people: find a hotel in the city, and then take a walk around town and you'll see all this and more for yourself.
