If you are done decorating the rest of the home with your taste you may wonder what you want to do in the spare room for guests which may stay periodically. You want to make sure this room is comfortable and welcoming to anyone who may need to stay. So which design should you go with?

As you know everyone doesn't enjoy the same design techniques when it comes to their own homes as some do in theirs. You can't please everyone so don't stress. Just make sure the room is relaxing and they are able to enjoy their nights rest rather than be overwhelmed with the decor.

Neutral colors are the way to stay with just enough color to accent the area. Choose one color to place throughout the room just to give it enough texture with the neutral background.

Blues, dark greens, reds, and purples are a great accent color to choose with a white room. You can use them in the bed setting, window curtains, pillows, and pictures which can be hung on the wall. You'll just give it enough punch to accent what you want in the room yet give them a great relaxing feel.

Area rugs are an excellent way of adding color accents. A rug colored mainly white could feature your chosen accent color in small patches or as part of a geometric pattern. Avoid having an area rug entirely the same color as your accent color. That is not an accent. It is a statement and possibly something you want to avoid if you want everyone to feel reasonably at home in this room.

The important thing when decorating a visitors' room is not to go overboard on what you see as creature comforts. You may not be able to sleep without being watched over by several laughing Buddha statuettes but the chances are your guests don't feel the same way. Keep it simple rather than homely and your guests will definitely thank you for it.

More Information:

Home Designers love to use area rugs, to finish a room. This one in particular is proving popular; Anji Mountain Seagrass Collection.
