Most parents realize that the actual parenthood begins the moment their child starts waking up in the wee hours of the night. Especially if your child wakes up in a two hour interval, you start to understand what other parents keep complaining about.
Most first time parents are sleep deprived during the first couple of years of being parents. This is the time when the child usually wakes up during times when parents wished their kids were sleeping. So what can you do to prevent from being sleep deprived?
Here are five of the most effective sleeping tips that you can do to help lighten your sleeping burden. Follow these simple tips and you will surely get the sleep that you want.
1. Do not expect too much
A lot of first time parents fall into the trap of putting a lot of pressure on themselves. They think that they need to be the perfect parent, which means that they should not lose patience with their kids. But according to experts, you really don't have to be the perfect parent. You should keep your expectations low. Pleasing everybody is the least of your concerns. Instead, you have to have balance.
2. Let Older Children Sleep On Their Own
While it is fine that you lie down beside your child until she falls asleep, you are actually letting yourself have a future problem of sleeping beside your child again the moment she wakes up in the middle of the night and come looking for you. Teach your child to sleep on her own so that you can have an uninterrupted sleep at night.
3. Earlier Bedtime for Toddlers and Preschoolers
Letting your toddlers sleep earlier than the rest of the family gives them enough time to go to sleep and more hours of quality sleep as well. A long 11-hour sleep, plus a nap or two is what your toddler needs everyday.
4. Establish bedtime routines for your kids
A lot of child experts recommend that you give your child about three to four pre sleeping routines every night. You have to make sure that they do exactly the same routines every night too. You can either let them take a bath, read a book, pray, etc. But the important thing is that you let them repeat the activities every night and let them make a routine out of it.
5. Have your own bedtime routine before going to bed
If you want your kids to sleep early, you should set an example and sleep early yourself. Aside from giving you the enough sleep that you and your body need, you will also feel food when you wake up in the morning.
