There is special compressed gas cylinders used to store cryogenic gases. Cryogenic cylinders are mostly thermally insulated ones. These canisters are typically designed according to the characteristics of the matter it carries. These canisters are competent of bearing extreme and rapid temperatures. However, in case you're unaware, there are different types of such canisters which come in different shapes and sizes.
The following are some of the most popular types:
Liquid containers:
These canisters are pressurized vacuum insulated canisters. They are particularly designed for the substance being stored and are at the moment the most inexpensive way of storage. They are also easy to transport, distribute and use in comparison to the other kinds of canisters for this purpose. Liquid canisters have valves through which the liquid is entered into and dispensed. There is also pressure control points on the canister with a bursting disk for safety precautions. Usually, there are three kinds of liquid containers available only in liquid containers, simple containers and complex canisters.
Dewar Flasks:
These flasks were created back in 1892 by Sir James Dewar and were named after him. Dewar Flasks are basically containers that are not pressurized, but rather have vacuum jacket vessels. There is a cork on top of the canisters which impedes air and moisture to enter the flask. These flasks are also known as vacuum flasks and they let extreme pressure into the vent. The vacuum located in these canisters is used for thermal insulation.
No matter what is present inside these flasks is maintained in a non-vacuumed condition. These flasks are considered best for controlling the hotness of the constituent. This is the notable characteristic of the Dewar flask, which is one of the factors behind this canister's massive fame. When hydrogen, oxygen, argon, and others are kept in these flasks, an external vessel of liquid nitrogen is attached to it for insulation purposes. These flasks are offered in various sizes and types. The most accepted model of Dewar flask is the liquid Dewar flask. This model doesn't have caps or tops. It has a large mouth opening and is not big in size, that's the reason it is mainly used in laboratories for storage purposes.
Tanks:
Tanks are the biggest canisters among all types/forms. They are double-walled and are insulated for storage purposes. These containers come in round shapes and are widely used for storage purposes. Their space can range from gallons to barrels and even more. Although, they are enormous, mounting them on permanent locations is easy. Tanks are sturdy, and thus are the excellent method of keeping matter securely. They can be mounted in truck chassis, railroad cars and immobile vessels. This shows that they are easier to take from one place to another. Tanks usually are pressurized at a fixed pressure. The temperature of the tanks is always moderate. There are safety relieve valves fixed between the inner and outer layer for the protection of the tanks. Finally, between the outer and inner surface there is some space left which is used as a vacuum.
