Retro is back! Fashion magazines rave about this trend and home decors are not privy to the appeal of this style. The good thing about decorating with a retro theme is the availability of materials. Old items, parents' furniture pieces from yester years and perhaps a family heirloom that you can use. It's all about going back in style.

Thrift shops, resale shops, flea markets and even estate auctions are the places to go for the cheapest retro style furniture buys. You can get funky looking items of furniture for as little as $10, rather than having to pay 50 to 100 times that. This means that you can afford to recover them, and you'll still save a lot of money.

This theme also requires a change in color to suit the era. Modern design is usually in subtle or dark tones, an opposite from the retro look. Hence, you would have to do some repainting work.

You will probably need to change your light fittings, and again thrift stores are a great place to look. You do need to be careful to check the wiring, in case there are any worn spots. If so, then you can take the fitting to a home improvement store, where you can buy rewiring kits inexpensively, and there will probably be an employee there who can explain how to go about the rewiring process.

Mind the small items because they make a difference to how the entire room looks. Maximize colors and shapes with your accessories so you'll have a retro vibe to the max!

Redecorating the floor can be cheap by opting for area rugs instead of carpeting, which was a hit back then. Area rugs make interesting floor decors, especially if you choose rugs with the retro style. If there's one thing that you can safely invest on, it's definitely area rugs. You buy a brand new rug and you can use it for a long time. Your home interiors will never be boring with a floor covering that is with color and design. For a quick makeover, simply change the rug or switch rug places between rooms.

Retro is funky and hippy. Complete the new decors with an upbeat attitude and you'll be happily time traveling to the retro era.
