When thinking of ways to decorate your house, don't forget the floor. You may not spend all your time walking around looking at the floor directly but when you enter a room, the type of flooring you have laid there can really make a difference to how the room looks and feels. There are a huge number of things you can do to a floor. Even only considering natural materials you have the option to lay stone, ceramic or wood flooring and each of these gives you huge scope in terms of design and coloring. Let's consider the possibilities offered by stone flooring first.
Stone flooring is worthy of our attention. You might think, stone can be awfully cold, isn't it? However, if you are installing new flooring or building a new house, you can put in an underfloor heating. Stone also easily warms up, so with sunlight and a warm temperature, the stone flooring can preserve heat for a long time even after the sun has gone or the temperature has dropped.
Stone floor can be light or dark in hue. The colors can also contrast or complement your chosen motif. There are also different textures that can suit your preference.
Area rugs can contrast or complement your stone flooring. A pale floor for example will look good both with a dark-colored rug or a light-colored one. An area rug also offers warmth for the feet, especially on those cool mornings or gloomy rainy days.
Sure, stone flooring seems old-fashioned, but this is a good material if you're after a sturdy and easy to maintain floor. It's also something different considering the mainstream use of linoleum and wood in houses nowadays. It's nice to be original, don't you think?
