Things To Know About Soup Varieties

Every culture makes soup. This comforting food comes in many varieties that are renowned the world over. While you may think that chicken noodle is the best soup ever, someone else may be dreaming of Japanese ramen or Cock-a-leekie from Scotland. The point is soup is served all over the world as a comforting source of nutrition.

Who has not heard of borscht from Russia? This kind is made of beets and veal. It is often topped with sour cream. Russia is also home to Shchav, which is made from sorrel. This soup is also served in Yiddish and Polish cuisines. Solyanka is a cabbage-based verity that hails from Russia.

If you want to savor something completely new to you, try Sour Soup from Vietnam. It is made with fish, vegetables, rice, and pineapple. Another kind you may find interesting is Beer Soup. This recipe hails from the Middle Ages. You heat up beer and slices of bread. Other ingredients are sometimes added. Another bread-based kind is Panada, which is made from eggs, beef broth, bread scraps, and Parmesan cheese.

From south of the border, you can always enjoy Pozole, which is thick hearty. It is based on pork or chicken and includes delicious ingredients like garlic, onion, hominy, chilies and cilantro. Menudo is a wonderful Mexican soup made of chilies, calf's feet, tripe, seasonings, and hominy. Cazuela hails from South America and is made of clear broth, potato, pumpkin, rice, corn and either beef or chicken.

If you really want to try something different, think about Samgyetang, which is a Korean soup made of chicken, ginseng, jujubes, garlic, chestnuts, glutinous rice, and ginger. It will really warm you up! Hungarian goulash is a good dish when you need warming, too. Made of pork, beef, peppers, paprika, potato, onion, and tomato, this one is delicious.

You may try one with a fun name. What could be more fun to eat than a something called Cock-a-leekie? This Scottish soup is made of potatoes and leeks in a chicken broth. Snert hails from the Netherlands. It is a thick pea verity served up with slices of sausage. Cullen Skink is another Scottish soup made from smoked haddock, cream, potatoes, and onions. Part of the fun of trying new things is being able to have some fun with it.

If you like vegetable soups better, onion soup recipes, vegetable and others may hit the spot. Solyanka is a Russian cabbage soup that you may really like. Lentil is a traditional kind from the Middle East that you may enjoy. Many cuisines have a tomato-based recipe... try a few and see what you like best.

Chowders and bisques are creamy soups. Chowders often feature seafood like clam, shrimp, or fish. Corn chowder is a favorite in some parts of the country. Bisques are often used with seafood or vegetables. Some favorites include clam chowder and lobster bisque.
