Umbro has attempted to avoid the overhyped computer generated ad campaigns that usually target their consumers by opting for a retro pop-art style. The campaign has been created by a leading Manchester agency who said they wanted to shy away from the usual dark ominous billboards you see looming over high streets. Their new boots will be made without the controversial use of kangaroo leather.
The miCoach gadgets separate themselves from the popular Nike+ pedometer by not pairing exclusively with Apple technology, although the software for the iPhone is likely to be the most popular. The devices will also pair with an array of MP3 players and hardware.
The material's unique properties allow the material to stretch and mould to the player's foot, offering a glove like fit, while also offering a great contact with the ball. Adidas is the leading commercial consumer of Kangaroo leather and use it in a variety of their boots.
The first boot to sport the leather was the Adidas Predators, pioneered by Liverpool Midfielder Craig Johnston in 1993. Johnston cut his ties with Adidas five years ago as he no longer agreed with killing kangaroos. He believes the future of the football boot lies in synthetic materials.
Adidas have released the devices and software in a bid to compete with rivals Nike over their Nike+ products, although much cheaper, the Nike+ has limited functions and provides a basic analysis. The miCoach provides one of the most high-tech analyses of any personal training device, data can be uploaded to an online database to track your progress and provide valuable feedback.
If a user is feeling particularly confident, they can allow their results to be automatically uploaded to Facebook in order to share their results with friends. The results can be streamed wirelessly on the go so your friends can track where you are and how fast you are running. Adidas hopes this will encourage users to train harder as they will feel the pressure of everyone watching.
